Another thought-provoking article on AppleMatters.com. He's right, but...there's a major problem with this idea. If the metaphor is unusable, then the device is, perhaps, non-intuitive. I know a 70-year-old lady who does amazingly well with Windows. Why? Because, she's been able to wrap her head around the metaphor. Most older people can't. You're going to have to bear with me. This could be a bit of a rambling entry. I'm thinking perhaps I should change the subtitle of this blog, because it's very likely that my POVs on UI could come to bear here. OTOH, I'm thinking about heading over to Wincustomize and setting up shop there, at least as far as UI goes. There would probably be more of an audience. Again, I'm requesting some synergy. I'm a user-interface nut. Usability is of paramount importance to me. That's the number one reason I switched back to windows from linux. Stop laughing. *g* Usability in applications, that is...not usability in the os interface. Windows' primary fault in its UI is that it is somewhat rigid. Either you do things the MS way...or you have to switch shells. Programs like Stardock's ObjectBar are changing that...but sometimes too many option aren't good, either.
